Bird Song Cottage-
how it came by this name

St Francis

The former owners of this house had raised birds and had 2 aviaries on the property. It was decided right then that the name must be Bird Song Cottage. The Hosts have created truly songbird friendly gardens with many birdhouses, feeders, and a water garden to further encourage their presence around the house.

Peter and Margaret, the current owners (she from Edinburgh and he from Warwickshire), have travelled widely, but one of their much-visited and absolute favourite places in the whole world is Assisi in the Italian Umbrian countryside.  Assisi was the home of St Francis who had a particular love for nature, and especially to birds.  Not surprising, then, that they have erected a small shrine to Francis behind the house and displayed a couple of Giotto’s paintings of Francis in the dining room.
