Birdsong cottage is a 100-year-old house that has a fascinating history. It has housed owners ranging from the manager of the local mill and his Japanese workers to, at one point, a chapter of Hell’s Angels motorcycle club. More recently it became one of the premier bed and breakfast premises on Vancouver Island, complete with meticulously executed decor, comfortable beds and marvellous gourmet food. Adjacent is Castlebury Cottage (where the millworkers used to bunk) which has been transformed into two medieval luxury suites
In 2007 Peter and Margaret Jones moved from Sooke to take over the property. They have been world travellers and the decor, while maintaining the birdsong theme, also includes artefacts and paintings from around the world.
In cooler weather there will be a fire burning in the lounge – a wonderful place for chatting in reminiscing with fellow-guests. For quieter moments there’s a whole library of books and a selection of film and music on disc.
The south-facing dining-room is where we serve gourmet three-course breakfasts at a time of your choosing.
